A Season in the Yukon

The single prop Otter took 3 attempts to start. I did not even notice, I was too busy looking at the tape on the side of the plane. I was sat next to the pilot, and everything was so manual, every control at his fingertips. The plane ran over the makeshift runway, and with a far from smooth uplift, we were airborne. I am not a nervous flyer, but this flight still runs through my mind. Flying over the still snowcapped peaks, the plane lurched and dropped in turbulence caused by winds and air shifting over the mountainous terrain. The pilot seemed unperturbed, sipping his coffee with no hands on the controls whilst my hands were firmly occupying the sides of my seat.
